Making Your Own Holiday Decorations
If you like the idea of decorating your home with personalized decorations, there are many ways you can make your own to complement the holiday decorations for sale out there. Making decorations yourself can be a lot of fun and a great way to create memories with the family by getting them to help. Make your own fresh wreath
If you like the idea of hanging a fresh wreath each season, then you can make your own. This way, you can ensure you have a fresh one for every year and you can add your own special touches to them. To make these wreaths you are going to need the following supplies:
- Round floral foam
- Stem tape
- Trimmings from a pine tree
- Cranberries
- Paperclips
- Scissors
- Wire cutters
You want to begin by cutting the pine tree trimmings so they are about 6 to 8 inches in length. Gather up a couple groupings and use the stem tape to tape the ends together tightly. Poke the ends into the foam, going all the way around the wreath until it is nice and full. Cut the paper clips in half with the wire cutters. Take one cranberry at a time and poke a straightened out paperclip into it. Poke the other end of the paperclip into the foam. Now you have a great looking wreath you can display around your home.
Make holiday lamps
You can make great holiday lams by using a string of appropriately colored lights and mason jars. You can use a diamond tipped drill to drill a hole about an inch up from the bottom of the jar to string the cord through, or you can poke a hole in the top of the lid and have it come out that way. Place the string of lights into the glass jar and plug them in. You can use red and pink lights for Valentine's Day, red and green ones for Christmas and orange ones for Halloween.
The chances are that you won't be able to make quite the amount of decorations needed to completely decorate your house. Therefore, you will still want to buy some great ones to compliment the ones you have made on your own. By the time you are done, you will have a home decorated for the holidays that you can be proud of and that gets you in the true holiday spirit.
